    Rameshwar Temple:

Built at the beginning of the Somavamsi dynasty in the early 9th Century AD, Rameshwar Temple, also known as Rameshwar Deula, is a major tourist attraction and one of the most important archaeological sites of both Bhubaneswar and surrounding countryside. The temple is associated with Lord Rama. It’s said that he visited the temple with his wife Sita after winning the great battle over King Ravana in Lanka.

    Makareswar Temple:

Lying close to the Papanasini Tank and the corner of Badhei Banka Chowk, Bhubaneswar, lies the Makareswar Temple. Depicting a very simple appearance with the external façade devoid of elaborate decoration, it resembles other late Ganga period temples. The visible decadence in sculptural and architectural undertakings during this period is evident as that period in history is marked with political turmoil and instability. The presence of Kirtimukha topped with Udyata lion in the middle of baranda mouldings is unique here.

    Khandagiri Caves:

Also known popularly as “The Twin Caves”, the Udaygiri and Khandagiri Caves are situated in the centre of Bhubaneswar and are considered to be Odisha’s hidden gems. Both the caves are historically very significant and are popular tourist spots. Both the Udaygiri and Khandagiri Caves give you a deep insight into the culture and lifestyle of Jain ascetics. The caves were dug by King Kharavela of the Mahamegavahana Dynasty in the second and first centuries BCE.

    Brahma Temple:

Located beside the eastern bank of the Bindusagar Lake on the path leading to the Lingaraj Temple, the Brahma Temple was built by the Gajapati Rulers. It is said to be important to seek blessings of Lord Brahma at this temple before going to the Lingaraj Temple. According to legend, Lord Brahma came to Bhubaneswar to attend Lord Lingaraj’s coronation. The temple was established in his honour, near the Bindusagar Lake.

    Mukteshwar Temple:

A cluster of smaller shrines with the main structure in the middle, the Mukteshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built during the rule of the Somavanshi dynasty sometime around 950 AD, it is one of the finest specimens of Kalinga architecture. Although surrounded by shrines, the Mukteshwar temple has a pond in the corner. The small water body adds to the beauty of the site. According to legend a dip here can cure infertility.

    Lingaraj Temple:

Dedicated to the supreme Lord of the Universe, Lord Shiva, the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar is not only a splendid example of Kalinga art and architecture, but also an extremely attractive site for tourists. The rich historical and cultural significance brings in millions of devotees and pilgrims from round the nation, every year. Constructed by the kings of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, the temple is surrounded by a massive stone wall enclosing a water tank called Bindu Sagar.

    Rajarani Temple:

Also known as the “Love Temple”, the Rajarani Temple is another famous shrine in Bhubaneswar dating back to the 11th Century. It is a classic example of the Kalinga style of architecture, which is characterised by its intricate carvings, and sculptures of gods and goddesses. The temple celebrates a Music festival called the Rajarani music festival during the months of January and February. Musicians from different parts of the world gather here to perform various styles of music including Carnatic, Hindustani and Odissi.

    Brahmeswara Temple:

One of the holiest temples in Bhubaneswar and among the best places of heritage in Odisha, the Bhrameswara Temple is situated just 3 kms. away from the Lingaraj Temple. The Bhrameswara Temple is known for its artistic sculptures. There are Tantric images inside too. The exterior walls feature sculptures of several gods and goddesses, birds, animals and some religious scenes. The main focus is an exquisite carving of Lord Shiva in his Natraja form.

    Markandeshwar Temple:

An important historical and spiritual site devoted to Lord Shiva, the Markandeshwar Temple is located in Bhubaneswar in the south-west corner of the Bindu Sagar Tank. The temple was supposedly built towards the end of the 8th Century AD, with the Jagamohana originally keyed into the Deula, indicating its contemporariness over earlier temples. Though the body of the temple is damaged, images still exist. The Nataraj sculpture at the entrance is truly magnificent.

    Parasuramesvara Temple:

Assumed to be one of the oldest temples in Bhubaneswar, the Parasurameswara Temple is small in size but is breathtaking when it comes to decoration of any shrine belonging to Lord Shiva. Constructed in 650 AD the temple has amazing sculptures of animals, amorous couples and floral designs. The outer walls are adorned with carvings of Hindu gods and goddesses and depictions of Puranic stories. But the most unique are the 1000 Lingas placed in one corner of the temple.

    Kedar Gouri Temple:

Lying just 300 mts. away from the Mukteshwara Temple, the Kedar Gouri Temple complex is another place of religious importance in Bhubaneswar. The complex has two temples.
